May: The Month of Possibility, Community and Growth

Is laughter the solution?

Pink cherry blossoms blooming against a bright blue sky with scattered white clouds, symbolizing growth, renewal, and possibility for Mental Health Awareness Month

In a world where war, poverty, and sadness dominate the headlines, it can feel naive to believe that May — of all months — symbolises possibilityopportunity, and forward motion. But maybe that’s exactly why it matters. Because it’s easy to see why mental health is such a hot topic right now — and why so many people feel stuck, overwhelmed, or just downright done.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and it’s something I want us to talk about today.

Despite all the visibility and volume, stigma still clings to mental health. We’re slowly shifting, yes — but let’s be honest: talking about our physical health is still far more socially acceptable. We’ve built clubs, communities, and entire industries around getting stronger, faster, leaner, and “wellness.” We hire coaches, we follow plans, we invest.

But when it comes to our mental health? We often wait. Wait until the wheels fall off. Until we’re in crisis. Until it hurts enough to do something about it.

This year’s Mental Health Awareness theme is the power and importance of community. So let’s flip the narrative.

This May, what if we approached our mental health with the same energy we give to our bodies? What if we normalised building mental fitness clubs, supportive circles, and yes — hiring coaches for our minds, not just our meal plans? You don’t need to wait for a diagnosis to start investing in your wellbeing. You can take the power back now. You can create your own possibilities and opportunities for growth — starting this month.

Fittingly, May is named after Maia, the Greek goddess of growth — in both nature and business. Growth, when we talk about mindset, is about so much more than effort. It’s about believing things can get better. It’s about learning from the past, seeking out feedback (even when it stings), taking inspiration from others, and refusing to see failure as final.

It’s about asking yourself, What can I try next?

And while we’re on the topic of growth... did you know May also includes World Laughter Day? That’s right — a day for full-belly laughs, for cheeky giggles, for the kind of joy that bubbles up and spills out. Laughter really is medicine. It boosts the immune system, releases endorphins, reduces stress, supports pain management — and maybe most importantly, it reconnects us to the moment.

Laughter creates connection. It pulls us out of isolation and into community. It lowers our inhibitions and helps us show up as our true selves — the raw, real, messy, magical versions of us. And when we’re around people who get us, who see us, and who laugh with us — our creativity explodes. The atmosphere becomes playful. And that? That is the perfect breeding ground for problem solving, for possibility, and for success.

So next time you find yourself stuck in a slump, unsure where to turn — go find your people. Laugh. Love. Connect. Because yes, laughter is medicine... but it’s also the spark that ignites growth, community, and a mindset that just won’t quit.

Sometimes the biggest shift starts with simply giving yourself permission to want more — more ease, more clarity, more you.

If this stirred something in you, hold onto it. Let it simmer. And when you're ready to explore things a little deeper, I’m here.

I also share honest chats, mindset tools, and real-life reflections here — if you want to stay connected, pop your email on the list. No fluff, just the good stuff.

Create the life you want. Start this May.
